The Breeders by Katie French

"The Breeders is a YA dystopian read that's as gritty and dark as the cover and title suggest. It takes a look at how society might devolve if females were commodities: bought, sold, stolen, and traded to keep the dwindling human race going. Frightening concept. I loved it." --A.G. Henley, author of The Scourge

Dissidence by Jamie Canosa

"An amazingly snarky protagonist, two hot boys, a mass rebellion, and an ending that will blow your mind are the perfect ingredients that will make Dissidence the next big thing in YA." --Beth, YA Sisterhood

The Moon Dwellers and Fire Country
by David Estes

“Fire Country is an epic start to the Country saga and left me with my heart pounding and totally breathless. Phenomenal" --K-booksxo.blogspot.com

"This could be your world... but it's definitely Terra's, and she navigates it with determination, and a longing for answers that makes her story engrossing and entertaining." -- abookobsession.com

After the Fear by Rosanne Rivers

"The book is just breathtaking from the moment you start till the moment you put it down." -- Amazon review

The Forever Saga: Flash by Sean C. Sousa

I was sent this book to review.  I am giving it an honest review.  To me books are important and I love to share my opinion any book I read.  I am giving this one 5 Stars plus a gold Star!  This is my opinion and I stand by it. ;~)

I realized that I like a  lot of books and I am adding a special gold star is for those books that make me wish the book was not over and can't wait to read more!

When is the next book coming out!

Click picture for amazon.ca or click here amazon.com

When I started reading this I do not know what I expected, but I have to tell you it was worth reading.  The hero, Brian and his partner, Flash are a great combination.  They compliment each other and you can't help but hope they make it! There was a little of everything in this book. Even a love story and for the hockey fans- hockey! (not a hockey fan but was surprised by the fact I didn't put it down, there was just enough to help the story with out ruining it!)

I don't want to give away to much, but Brian's family, the characters are all different but you can see them as a family, with all their ups and downs.

Twice my reader died on me just when I wanted to read more (the one draw back to eReaders), thought I was going to go nuts waiting to see what would happen next and not be able to read! It was worth it!  He brought their everyday lives into the story and I have to admit a few surprises with that, I just didn't see coming!

It was a mixture of today's world and tomorrows. I loved his insights into certain emotions and the results of great minds that are truly bad, and the end game of their life's work. Could almost believe this world could exist, hay maybe it does!

I still can't get over that is made me cry at the end. It was so well written, you could feel what they felt and why.  Plus it was not full of words that you had to look up every 2 secs.  I really look forward to the next book and the rest of the story!

I am also looking forward to learning the story of  Grigori Geist (he is the bad guy) It sounds like there is a very good story there.  There is also a hint of the story behind the story when Brian and Flash are on there way to my Grigori.  A story before humans today.  I would love to read that!

When I was finished, reading the end acknowledgements etc. I came across a nice little fact that I would like to share,  "Did you know that a portion of every sale of this book benefits International Justice Mission and work to end human trafficking?"

So in my opinion the book is a must read! With the bonus of helping a great cause!

So The Forever Saga: Flash by Sean C. Sousa I give this book 5 Stars plus a Gold Star!!

What's Next! Great Idea!

Was visiting a fellow book blogger, IceyBooks and she has a great idea.

I always have problems in picking out what to read next, and I believe (hope) this will help.

These are 3 books that I want to read, they are all hardcover and fit into my challenges.
If you can help me pick one, that would be fantastic!

One

So here we go:
Hard Revolution by George Pelecanos

Summary from inside the front cover:

Derek Strange is a rookie cop, the job he's dreamed of since he was a boy. His brother, Dennis, has not been as fortunate; home from the service with a disability pension and zero prospects, he is man with good intentions but bad habits. Derek has always looked out for Dennis, but no amount of brotherly love can save him from the dangerous world of Alvin Jones, a local bottom-feeder, hustler, and stone killer who draws him into his web of violence.

While the rookie cop navigates the rocky terrain of a city in turmoil, a family in crisis, and his love for a woman he has driven away, Frank Vaughn, a cop at the opposite end of his career, investigates the vicious hit and run of a young black man. Vaughn's personal life is a shambles, but he's good police; he pursues the killers with shark like intent. Meanwhile, in Memphis, a prophet is murdered, igniting a volcanic chain of events that will leave the nation's capital burned, divided, and decimated, forever changing the lives of its working-class inhabitants.

 Two

The Messenger by Jan Burke

Summary from inside cover:

Beneath the Caribbean Sea, a salvage diver hears an eerie voice calling to him from the wreckage of a nineteenth-century ship. In return for promised riches, the diver becomes the servant of Adrian deVille, Lord Varre, the creature who has called to him. It's a bargain the diver will come to regret. Varre enlists him in a hunt for a man named Tyler Hawthorne.
Ten years later, in a canyon in the foothills above Los Angeles, Amanda Clarke has become curious about her new neighbor, Tyler Hawthorne. He's not home much, but others tell her that her new neighbor is about her age -- twenty-four. He's also wealthy, handsome, and single.

Three

Secret of the Dragon by Margaret Weis & Tracy Hickman

Summary from inside cover:

New gods are challenging the old high god, Torval, for ruler ship of the world.  The only way to stop these brash interlopers lies with the five Bones of the Vektia Dragons—the five primal dragons hidden away by the dragon goddess, Vindrash, during the creation of the world.  Without these dragons, one of the new gods, Aelon, cannot seize power.  The only hope of the Vindrasi lies in finding the dragon bones before the followers of Aelon can use them to destroy the old gods.  But the Vindrasi gods have a traitor in their midst…

In the land of mortals, Raegar, a Vindraisi turned Aelon warrior-priest, searches for the spirit bones.  The gods have a champion of their own—Skylan Ivorson, sea-raider and high chief of the Vindrasi clans, and sworn enemy to Raegar.  But Skylan is a prisoner on his own ship. The ship’s dragon, Kahg, has vanished and some believe he is dead.  Skylan and his people are taken as captives to Sinaria, where they must fight in a game known as the Para Dix. The fates of men and gods and are dragons are rushing headlong to destruction. Skylan can stop the calamity, but only if he discovers the secret of the dragon.

Review: Further:Beyond the Threshold by Chris Roberson

(click the book to take you to Goodreads)
I have to give this one 5 out of 5!
From beginning to ind this book had my attention and kept it.
I love that in a book!  I really hope he writes a sequel to this.  I would really love to learn more about Captain RJ Stone and his travelling mates.

I love books that explore a unique way of looking at things.  Trust me when I say the Chris Roberson has quite the imagination and would truly love to hear his thoughts on a few subjects.
I loved his approach to RJ Stone and RJ's thoughts when thrown into such a unbelievable position, but yet believable.
Chris Roberson's views of the future are insightful and imaginative.  One thing about the future is that since it is unknown, it could be what ever you want it to be.  His future world is so believable and I enjoyed his thoughts on everyday things and how someone from the past would react.  Even down to how the future miss represents the past.  Like our thoughts on drinking before dinner to what cloths to where.
If you are into Science Fiction, you have to read this book.
It is funny but it is so will written I can picture the Further and most of the characters.
Would love to see this as a movie but one done as close as possible to the book as they can.
Without cutting out the funny stuff, I swear they take away from a book when they take out the humor.

I will have to check out more of his books.

Well the next book I will be finishing is

Review: The Dead of Winter by Jack Night

Hi all! finished this a while ago and wrote the review before I got sick but just now realized that I did not post this!

I have to admit I loved the book.  I give it a 4.5 out of 5

The story line was great and unique (in all my reading wanderings, only one book has came close to the background story this book offers)  It had me right at the beginning.  As soon as I started reading it, it took everything I had not to read it all at once. The characters where believable, and you kept hoping nothing would happen to them.

Everything in my imagination kept trying to figure out what was causing the "events", I have to give this author credit for making me wonder right up to the point I found out the truth.  Great Job Jack!

I read outside a lot, waiting for my ride to and from work, and I smoke out side too.  I always take my tablet with me (it has both Kindle and Kobo on it) and it lights up so need to carry a light.  When I am reading I have a habit of forgetting where I am and talking out loud or gasping (and on a few occasions  have had tears running down my face)    Well this book had me gasping or talking to it.  Have had a few funny looks until I explain what I am reading. LOL!

I kept  waiting for what was to come next.  Trying to guess what was going to happen and to whom.  Most of my guesses where wrong but I was not disappointed.  I loved the story line and the characters.  The writer gave you enough information on each one to have you hoping yours would make it.  Right up until the end.

Now the reason I gave it 4.5 out of 5 is because when it ended I felt like I had missed something in the book.  Now I am not sure if it was something I missed or if it was there at all.  I do intend to read the book again some time in the future, maybe I will see what I missed.

In my opinion, if you like thrillers, read this book, it is well worth it!
